Nepal - Assessment Mission and Nonviolence Training

Nepal_FlagIMG_6371During the week of June 1 – 5, 2011, Communities Without Boundaries International visited Kathmandu, Nepal to assess the challenges and opportunities of engaging the country in addressing potential or latent conflict that might exist despite the official end of the war in 2007. The purpose of this engagement was (1) to provide leadership and nonviolence training to youth and community leaders, (2) assess the need for community building and development activities in Nepal, and (3) develop collaborative network opportunities for future interventions.

Maldive Islands: Nonviolence training and dialogue (webinar)

Mack and Maneshka Eliatamby, Vice President of Programs delivered a webinar on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s life and his philosophy of nonviolence to a group of youth and civil society members in Male. The presentation was followed by a question and answer session, during which the audience asked several pertinent and relevant questions regarding the efficacy of Kingian nonviolence as a tool for creating positive change.

Sri Lanka: Advanced nonviolence and peacebuilding training & dialogue

Communities Without Boundaries International partnered with the United States Department of State in Sri Lanka to carry out a series of nonviolence and peacebuilding training workshops in January and March 2011. Over a two-week period in January, CWBI’s team conducted trainings in Matara, Horona (Sri Pali Campus at Colombo University), Bandaragama and Padukka. We returned to Sri Lanka in March 2011, and carried out another series of workshops at the University of Peradeniya in Kandy, University of Kelaniya, and Rajarata University in Anuradhapura. In 2010, CWBI staff conducted trainings in Colombo, at South Eastern University in Olluvil, Eastern University in Batticoloa, and at the University of Jaffna.
