Martin Luther King III and Communities Without Boundaries International, Inc. will be in Istanbul, Turkey from Monday, April 29th to Friday, May 3rd engaging in a number of peacebuilding activities with its local partners. The week will begin on April 29th and 30th with celebrations of the International Jazz Day sponsored by UNESCO and organized by the Thelonius Monk Institute. The jazz performances are meant to raise awareness of jazz and its virtues as an educational tool, and a vehicle for peace, unity, and dialogue.
Among CWBI’s other programming activities is an introductory training on nonviolence and peacebuilding that will take place at the Istanbul Policy Center of Sabanci University. With Istanbul Sehir University, we will co-host Martin Luther King III who will speak on the efficacy of nonviolence in the 21st century. The talk titled The Legacy of MLK and the Role of Nonviolence in the 21st Century falls under the university’s “Debating the Global” Public Lecture Series and is open to the public.This lecture series has previously hosted prominent scholars such as Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Mohammed Ayoob, ShibleyTelhami, Alan G. Merten, Michael Dillon, and Ana Deviç.CWBI will also hold several meetings with leading civil society members and academics that are engaged in peacebuilding activities around the world during the course of the week.
